The American Pit bull Terrier and the American Staffordshire Terrier both belong to the molesser breed group, and they both originated in Europe. The Staffordshire is slightly shorter than the pit, reaching shoulder heights of around 19 inches high. Both weigh in at around 60 pounds, but it's common for the Staffordshire to weigh a bit more than a pit bull terrier. Both the American Pit Bull Terrier (APBT) and the American Staffordshire Terrier (AST) descended from a group of old style Bulldogs and old style terriers that were present in the 1800s both in the UK and in the United States. Staffordshire Terrier vs American Pit Bull Terrier The Staffordshire Terrier is bred for show purposes while the American Pit Bull Terrier is a non-show type dog. It also exhibits more aggression and power than its counterpart. There is a significant difference in the size of these two dogs‚ the Amstaff is a much heavier and bulkier dog than the American Pit Bull Terrier.
Their American pit bull cousins, however, are slightly taller at 21 inches. The Pit bull is taller, heavier, and more muscular than the Amstaff.
